SS7 protocols like MAP and CAP run over the Transaction Capabilities Application Part (TCAP). In legacy TDM networks, these are limited by the 272-byte MTP3 payload constraint. In SIGTRAN networks, these constraints are relaxed, but bandwidth efficiency remains critical.
